Dropped points
When people say a team has “dropped points,” it means they failed to win a match where they could or should have.
In league football (like the Premier League):
A win = 3 points
A draw = 1 point
A loss = 0 points
So:
If a team draws a match they were expected to win → they dropped 2 points (because they only earned 1 instead of 3).
If they lose a match they were expected to win → they dropped all 3 points.
Example
If Arsenal draw 1–1 with a team near the bottom of the table, commentators will say, “That’s two points dropped.” The expectation was a win, but they only got one point.
