Positions - Number 6
What's in a kit number? A 6 or an 8? A 10 or 9? Just like positions in baseball have numbers associated with them - a 6-4-3 double play means that the shortstop (6) threw it to the second baseman (4) who thre it to the first baseman (3). In football, just like the name itself, things are more literal. So not only is the "6" in football is the deep, central midfielder whose main job is to defend, protect, and organize play from deep. And often times the "6" also wears the number six as their shirt number. For example, João Palhinha wears the number six shirt for Tottenham Hotspur this 2025/26 season.
