Winger / Wide Player
A “winger” (or wide player) is the attacker who operates near the sidelines, stretching defenses and delivering crosses or cutting inside to shoot.
Example:
“Saka’s causing problems down the right wing.”
Why It Matters
Wingers bring width, speed, and unpredictability. Modern football often turns them into goal threats, not just assist-makers.
Everyday Comparison (U.S. Sports)
Like a wide receiver in football or a wing in basketball — using space and movement to break open defenses.
